Reflection

I was not looking forward to EGL 102 when I heard Professor Brady gives a lot of writing assignments. Surprisingly, this class ended up being one of my favorite classes this semester and probably one of my favorite English classes ever. Professor Brady treated every student with respect and refereed to us as "scholars" which boosted our confidence. It also gave me the idea for "Inside A Scholar's Brain". She's always cared and made sure we were on top of things. There was never a penalty for a wrong answer and no one felt judged. There was never a dull moment in this class. Every student was outgoing and fun, forming a proper learning environment.

I have definitely grown not only as a student, but as a person. I learned a lot from this class including words like marginalization, disenfranchisement and egalitarianism. We focused a lot on gender inequality and racial discrimination, which I know a lot about now. My writing has definitely improved from the beginning of the semester. I now use more complex words and learned how to backup my ideas with concrete examples. This was the first English class where I actually feel like I improved as a writer.

My favorite thing about the class was having class outside. Getting away from the classroom was nice. I also liked the fishbowls we did which really helped, (especially if you didn't do the homework). An open discussion for anyone to speak creates conversation about whatever we're discussing in the fish bowl. I really like the idea of making a blog/portfolio for the final. English finals are usually just essays or tests about verbs and nouns etc. I really enjoyed doing this project, although it took me a while. Overall, this was a fun and interesting class.
