TYW Discussion Panel

Another thing I liked about this class was the discussion panels. I previously did one with a few of my classmates discussing Creon in the play Antigone towards the beginning of the semester. A few other classmates and I then had a discussion about "The Yellow Wallpaper" which helped me understand not only the story, but how unequal women were treated. A few themes we presented were isolation, self-worth and entrapment. It's crazy to think that not that far back, women faced unimaginable discrimination. My fellow scholars and I came to the realization that women were second class citizens and were treated very poorly. The protagonist in "The Yellow Wallpaper", realizes that she's the women trapped behind the wallpaper. She wast alone though. The wallpaper represented women trapped in the 19th century, experiencing silence which is one of the most powerful forms of oppression. This discussion panel was definitely a success.
