Discussion Panel on Creon
Towards the beginning of the semester, Haley, Rita, Brian, Holly and I had a discussion panel in the front of the room. We discussed Creon from Antigone, claiming that Creon is an emotional character and because of it he makes bad decisions. Half of us agreed with the statement given, and the other half disagreed. We had good points and concrete examples to back it up.This definitely benefited us because it got us more engaged in the book and it helped us understand the story better. Creon warns everyone to not touch Polyneices, and if they do they will die. Antigone wants to give Polyneices a proper burial and Creon will kill anyone who touches him. We talked about how Creon is irrational because he's willing to kill his own niece. We argued that he's rational though because Polyneices is a trader and maybe it was the right decision to leave him to rot. Our discussion flowed so good, it was like we practiced! We brought in an outside source to relate to Antigone. In the show "Breaking Bad", the protagonist, Walter White, does anything to support his family. His teaching job wasn't enough so he got into the meth business, which results in his death. Similar to this, Antigone makes the wrong decision which also ends in her death. These discussion panels not only helped us academically, but helped us make friends and talk to new people.
